Building complex #9: 27th and 30th Primary Schools and the 119th Kindergarten

As part of Athens_Wave, energy audits and techno-economic studies were conducted for the school complex located at 4 Kastalias and Chilindariou Street, Municipality of Athens. The complex consists of one building housing :

  • the 27th and 30th Primary Schools of Athens,
  • a second building housing the 119th Kindergarten, and
  • a third building also housing the 119th Kindergarten.

All three buildings were studied for energy upgrade.

The initial building permit for the main building housing the Primary Schools was issued in 1978, and the other two buildings were constructed after 1980. The structures collectively cover a total surface area of 3.338,70 m².

Both buildings were studied for energy upgrades revealing significant potential towards reduced environmental impact and notable cost savings.

The preliminary results, pending final alignment with the business plan, showcase the following expected improvements:

  • Energy consumption reduction: 83,98%
  • Annual primary energy savings: 307.693,88 kWh (equivalent to €18.212,10 saved per year)
  • Reduction in CO2 emissions: 76.202,53 kg annually
  • Operational cost reduction: from €21.436,00 to just €3.223,90 per year
  • Improved heating system: replacement of the old, inefficient heating system that currently runs on heating oil
  • Staff training: recommended for optimal use of energy-efficient systems
