Building complex #8: 11th and 63rd Primary Schools, 64th and 105th Kindergartens and the 48th and 20th Junior High Schools

As part of Athens_Wave, energy audits and techno-economic studies were conducted for the school complex located at 44 Michail Koraka Street & Papavasiliou, Municipality of Athens. The complex consists of one building housing :

  • the 11th and 63rd Primary Schools
  • along with the 64th and 105th Kindergartens, and
  • a second building housing the 48th and 20th High Schools.

The first building was constructed in 1985 and the second in 1978. The structures collectively cover a total surface area of 3.886,89 m².

Both buildings were studied for energy upgrades revealing significant potential towards reduced environmental impact and notable cost savings.

The preliminary results, pending final alignment with the business plan, showcase the following expected improvements:

  • Energy consumption reduction: 85,15%
  • Annual primary energy savings: 493.338,50 kWh (equivalent to €29.107,20 saved per year)
  • Reduction in CO2 emissions: 132.613,70 kg annually
  • Operational cost reduction: from €33.590,30 to just €4.483,10 per year
  • Improved heating system: replacement of the old, inefficient heating system that currently runs on heating oil
  • Staff training: recommended for optimal use of energy-efficient systems
