Building complex #7: 12th Primary School, 42th, and 57th Kindergartens of Athens

As part of the Athens_Wave project, energy audits and techno-economic studies were conducted for the school complex located at 2 Koryialeneiou Street, Municipality of Athens. The complex consists of one building housing :

  • the 12th Primary School of Athens and
  • a second building housing the 42nd and 57th Kindergartens.

The main building housing the 12th Primary School was constructed in 1975, and the other two buildings were built after 1981. The structures collectively cover a total surface area of 3.010,77 m².

Both buildings were studied for energy upgrades revealing significant potential towards reduced environmental impact and notable cost savings.

The preliminary results, pending final alignment with the business plan, showcase the following expected improvements:

  • Energy consumption reduction: 92,85%
  • Annual primary energy savings: 473.295 kWh (equivalent to €38.759,90 saved per year)
  • Reduction in CO2 emissions: 136.069 kg annually
  • Operational cost reduction: from €39.541,80 to just €781,90 per year
  • Improved heating system: replacement of the old, inefficient heating system that currently runs on heating oil
  • Staff training: recommended for optimal use of energy-efficient systems
