Building complex #6: 39th and 141st Primary Schools of Athens, 49th Junior High School and the 97th Kindergarten

As part of the Athens_Wave project, energy audits and techno-economic studies were conducted for the school complex located at 399 Acharnon Street and Tsounta and Filiou, Municipality of Athens. The complex consists of one building housing:

  • the 39th and 141st Primary Schools of Athens,
  • a second temporary building also housing the 39th and 141st Primary Schools,
  • a third building housing the 97th Kindergarten,
  • and a fourth building housing the 49th High School.

All four buildings were studied for energy upgrade.

The construction year of the main building housing the Primary schools is 1978, the temporary building housing the Primary schools and the kindergarten are from after 1980, and the building of the High School was constructed in 1984. The structures collectively cover a total surface area of 3.385,49 m².

The preliminary results, pending final alignment with the business plan, showcase the following expected improvements:

  • Energy consumption reduction: 81,81%
  • Annual primary energy savings: 267.377,75 kWh (equivalent to €15.917,40 saved per year)
  • Reduction in CO2 emissions: 72.811 kg annually
  • Operational cost reduction: from €18.972,90 to just €3.055,50 per year
  • Staff training: recommended for optimal use of energy-efficient systems
